The Los Angeles Dodgers, in an attempt to give their offense a boost, will not have struggling right fielder Yasiel Puig in the starting lineup Tuesday night for Game 4 of the NL Division Series, manager Don Mattingly announced earlier in the day.
Mattingly reasoned that benching Puig "gives us the best chance to win today," according to ESPN.com.
Puig hit .296 with 16 homers and 69 RBI during the regular season. But he's been ineffective during the Division Series with three hits in 12 at-bats.
He's struck out eight times in the series, including seven in a row.
Los Angeles trails the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in the best-of-5 series.
