Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix told WGR 550-AM in Buffalo that his team plans to pick a quarterback in the NFL Draft in an interview held on Thursday hours before the event. Nix said there are at least two quarterbacks in this draft class he would label as "franchise" -caliber and said the Bills "intent sometime during this draft is to get that guy."
"I think there's two or three and probably more that you can win with in this league and they can play for a long time," Nix said. "I believe that. I think there's more if you use them right. You got to do what they do best. All of them do some really good things. All of them got some negatives just like everybody else. You got to play to their strength."
Nix described a "franchise quarterback" as a guy that has enough talent to lead his team to the Super Bowl. Buffalo has not seen those results from the quarterback position since Jim Kelly led the team to their fourth consecutive appearance during Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994.
Kevin Kolb was acquired by the Bills last month and told the Buffalo media that his goal was to win multiple Super Bowls playing for the team. However, Nix made it clear that the addition of Kolb doesn't change the team's approach to the draft.
