WrestleMania 31 Rumors: CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar And 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin Return Discussed By Jim Ross

Amid rumors that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin may have one more match in him for WrestleMania 31 next spring, WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross took to his blog at Jrsbarbq.com to share his thoughts on a possible Austin return as well as a match pitting CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar.

There have been rumors that Austin -- who hasn't wrestled since WrestleMania XIX in 2003 -- was working out really hard in order to return to the ring, and Ross weighed in by saying he believes it's a long-shot that Austin returns.

Austin has been inconsistent with his response to questions about possibly returning as he told Sam Roberts he had "no hunger" to return to the ring during SummerSlam weekend, but hinted at a WrestleMania 32 return when speaking to PWTorch.

Ross said he didn't believe Austin would make a comeback.

"As many have speculated that Steve Austin swill return to WM31 for a final bout, my take on that matter is that it is a tremendous [long-shot] and my guess is that those in depth and necessary discussions with Steve haven't occurred," Ross blogged. "That's simply one man's take/opinion. I'd put the odds on Austin returning to WM31 at considerably less than 50/50 and that's from someone who would love to see Austin come to WM31, steal the show, and enjoy a cold beer with his fans. Plus, if Austin would return he would have to be positioned at or near the top of the card. Is that doable?"

There have been rumors that Lesnar will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., but that remains to be seen with Reigns' current injury.

Ross came up with his own long-shot scenario of Punk, who is said to be on bad terms with the WWE still, returning to face Lesnar for the gold at the Show of Shows in March.

"I wonder what the chance would be to see a CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar WM31 WWE Title [bout]? Stranger things have happened and that pairing would guarantee WWE a ton of new subscribers and likely ignite the PPV marketplace as well," he wrote. "Communication and money solve many ills and that would be a terrific main event considering that as it stands today WWE has major work to do in assembling what looks to be more of an ensemble card than one that is one or two main event heavy at this time. I'm sure that I'm not alone in wanting to see a Lesnar-Punk headliner at WM31 because it equates to big money for all involved."

The WrestleMania 31 card will be highly discussed over the next few months, but it remains to be seen if Austin or Punk will be involved while it seems almost guaranteed that Lesnar will be defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the biggest event of the year.
