Tim Tebow: Mark Sanchez Believes Jets 'Enabled' Hype Of Backup

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez responded to the media circus that followed teammate Tim Tebow last season in a radio interview, suggesting that the team contributed to the excessive hype. Sanchez said the media coverage, particularly during the Jets training camp sessions, was more intense than it had been when the team reached back-to-back AFC Championship Games in 2009 and 2010.

"I think part of that, too, is ESPN didn't necessarily sneak in overnight at our training camp," he said on FOX Sports Radio in Los Angeles. "They had to get permission to go."

Sanchez recorded the interview with the "Petros and Money" show on Wednesday, however, transcripts of the interview weren't released until Friday. Sanchez added that Tebow received more media attention than any player he's ever been around, adding, "I just don't know if it was the best situation for either of us, but you play with the cards you are dealt with and do the very best you can."

Sanchez served as the Jets starting quarterback during Tebow's only season with New York. Despite his struggles, Sanchez was never taken out for Tebow, rather for former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McIlroy, who had no previous NFL starting experience.
