Ronda Rousey Next Fight: 'Rowdy' Receives Medical Clearance to Resume Training [VIDEO]

UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been cleared to resume training after undergoing minor knee surgery over the summer. Rousey also had to heal the broken hand she suffered in her last title defense, a 16-second knockout win over Alexis Davis in July.

Video was released on Tuesday of "Rowdy" in Brazilian jiu-jitsu training with former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. Throughout the video, which lasts about four and a half minutes and can be seen below, Rousey looks to be fully recovered. She was able to complete a few reversals on the current number-one lightweight contender, and even came close to putting him in an armbar submission.

Rousey receiving her medical clearance is great news for the UFC, but it is still completely unknown when she will make her return to the octagon and who she will face. She previously expressed a desire to fight on Jan. 3 at UFC 182, but it is unclear who her opponent should be.

UFC Champ Ronda Rousey Willing to Compete in Metamoris, If Money Is Right

Rousey previously said she hopes to fight former Strikeforce star Gina Carano, though Carano has yet to sign with the UFC and hasn't fought in five years. Most recently Rousey has called out Bethe Correia, but Correia is an up-and-coming contender who would likely need a few more wins before challenging for the title.

The most logical choice would be the winner of Cat Zingano vs. Amanda Nunes, which will take place on Sept. 27 at UFC 178. Zingano was supposed to challenge Rousey for the championship last year before suffering a knee injury and problems in her personal life that sidelined her for a year. Nunes is currently on a two-fight win streak with both wins coming by first-round knockout, so if she beats Zingano in impressive fashion it should be enough to earn her a title shot.
