In typical recent fashion of NFL domestic violence stories, the Adrian Peterson incident has another chapter.
KHOU 11 News reported Monday that the Minnesota Vikingsstar running back, reinstated after being booked on charges of felony injury to a child, was previously accused of injuring another of his sons under his definition of discipline.
KHOU reported that it obtained photos and text messages describing the second incident, one that Peterson's lawyer, Rusty Hardin, says is absolutely false.
According to KHOU, the incident against the second child, whom the station said does not live in Texas, took place in June when the boy was visiting Peterson in his Spring home. It added that a photo allegedly texted by Peterson to the boy's mother shows the boy with a head wound covered with two bandages.
The station added that other photos that were allegedly taken weeks after the alleged incident, showed the boy with a scar over his right eye.
KHOU also revealed the text-message conversation between Peterson and the boy's mother.
Mother: "What happened to his head?"
Peterson: "Hit his head on the Carseat."
Mother: "How does that happen, he got a whoopin in the car."
Peterson: "Yep."
Mother: "Why?"
Peterson: "I felt so bad. But he did it his self."
Mother: "What did you hit him with?"
Peter never directly answered, but later replied: "Be still n take ya whooping he would have saved the scare (scar). He aight (all right)"
No charges, however, were filed against Peterson for that offense, KHOU reported. It found sources that confirmed that the mother filed a report with Child Protective Services, but the outcome of that report was not immediately known.
Hardin took issue with the report.
"The allegation of another investigation into Adrian Peterson is simply not true," Hardin said in a statement. "This is not a new allegation, it's one that is unsubstantiated and was shopped around to authorities in two states over a year ago and nothing came of it. An adult witness adamantly insists Adrian did nothing inappropriate with his son. There is no ongoing or new investigation."
However, a former chief prosecutor of family crimes in Texas says it's possible that the information in that report could be used against Peterson in his current felony case.
"This is very damaging information," Randy Burton said." ... to prove intent, that it was not an accident, and to show that it was a course of conduct," Burton said. "It wasn't a one-off."
Burton is the founder for the advocacy group, Justice for Children.
"It's absolutely criminal," Burton said. "You break the skin, you have bleeding, much less permanent scars, that is a crime."
