No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes (-11.0) (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
Ohio State escaped against Navy last week, but Virginia Tech is a much better opponent. Will freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett lead the Buckeyes past the Hokies and earn that No. 8 ranking?
Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said that he believes that Barrett played well, but the entire team can do much better.
"I'm just trying to think of the mistakes he made," Meyer said. "He's just not the dynamic guy. I wouldn't mind, when he decides to run, to really go. But he played pretty well.”
Ohio State pulled out the victory against Navy 34-17 despite trailing 7-6 at halftime, while the Hokies beat up on William & Mary 34-9. This game would go a long way as to proving that Ohio State is a legitimate national championship contender while Virginia Tech can thrust themselves into the conversation with a win or a close defeat.
This is the first ever meeting between the Buckeyes and the Hokies and the upset alert is certainly on. Virginia Tech had won 10 of 15 games against ranked opponents from 2008-11, but have fallen on rough times and have lost six of the last seven match ups.
