Manchester United News: Jurgen Klopp Identified As Louis Van Gaal's Successor In 2018

The 2014 campaign is a mere three weeks old, but that hasn't stopped Manchester United from identifying their next manager. According to the Daily Star (via Goal Transfer Talk), the Red Devils have reportedly identified Jurgen Klopp as the man to succeed Louis van Gaal in 2018.

Klopp, currently spearheading German outfit Borussia Dortmund, will no longer be under contract in 2018. United are expected to pounce upon its termination.

This isn't the first time the club has targeted the charismatic manager. Klopp was highly sought after following the unmitigated disaster that was David Moyes. Manchester's pursuit came to no avail. At the time, Klopp had no intention of departing Dortmund.

"There were some English clubs that called and wanted to speak with me," he said back in February when asked about United's pursuit (via the Express). "But there was no reason to talk to them because...no chance. It's only hard to understand if you always think 'I can go to a bigger club.'"

"I'm sure you could earn much more money at one or the other English clubs, or at a Chinese or Russian club," he added. "But it's not the most important thing."

Manchester United will have zero qualms testing that loyalty in four years' time; however, given their current standing in the Premier League table (14th), the need for a new manager will come sooner rather than later.

Rather than plan for 2018, United must consider if van Gaal is the man for the position in 2015.
