WWE Rumors: Michael Sam Unlikely For RAW After Closing In On Joining Dallas Cowboys Practice Squad [VIDEO]

Rookie defensive end Michael Sam hasn't responded to WWE's open invitation for him to appear on Monday Night RAW next week, but it now seems unlikely that he will appear due to the Dallas Cowboys closing in on signing him to the team's practice squad.

WWE SmackDown Spoilers For Friday

Sam, who was the first openly gay player to ever be selected in an NFL Draft back in May when he was taken by the Rams in the seventh round out of Missouri, was cut by St. Louis over the weekend. This prompted the WWE to offer him an open invite to next week's RAW in Baltimore that would come with an open microphone for him to share his thoughts.

Sam didn't respond to the invitation, but with the news breaking that the Cowboys plan on signing him to their practice squad, it is unlikely that he would make an appearance on the WWE's flagship program.

Stephanie McMahon wrote a letter to Sam on WWE.com Tuesday imploring him to come to RAW next Monday.

"Exhibiting class and dignity rarely shown in professional sports, Michael Sam, WWE invites you to next Monday's Raw to speak of your struggles to succeed, lessons you have learned along the way, the courage it takes to be yourself and the prospects of your continued journey," she wrote.

"You are a role model, who, by example, can encourage everyone to stand up and openly be themselves.

Signed,
Stephanie McMahon
CBO, WWE"

The WWE is trying to stack up Monday's show since it goes head-to-head with the NFL for the first time this season as Monday Night Football returns with the New York Giants visiting the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, home of WWE WrestleMania 23.

Bringing in Sam would add more intrigue to a jam-packed episode as the WWE has already also announced a Steel Cage Match between Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt and another SummerSlam rematch that will pit Roman Reigns against Randy Orton.

The WWE announced that Jerry Springer will also be on-hand to try and settle the dispute between Nikki Bella and Brie Bella.

Sam, who may become the first openly gay player to suit up for an NFL game if he gets another opportunity, likely will not attend RAW.

The Cowboys open up their season by hosting the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
