Liverpool Transfer News: Victor Valdes Agrees To 1-Year Deal, Could Sign With Club In October

Having already spent exponentially during the summer transfer window, Liverpool are looking to further bolster their roster in the coming weeks. According to the Independent (via Goal Transfer Talk), the club has opened talks with free agent Victor Valdes and could sign the former Barcelona goalkeeper in October. Per the report, the Reds will wait to see how he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury suffered in March.

The Spanish press (via the Express), however, believe Valdes has already agreed to personal terms on a one-year deal. Due to his free-agent status, Valdes is not subject to the summer transfer deadline and could move to Liverpool even after it has closed.

His impending arrival will immediately challenge current shot-stopper Simon Mignolet, whose standing with the club is in jeopardy just four months after being hailed by his manager. "I've been delighted with Simon since he has come in," Brendan Rodgers said last season (via Liverpool Echo). "I think he's an outstanding goalkeeper who is only going to get better and better."

"He has come into a huge club and replaced a legendary figure at the club in Pepe Reina," he added. "That was always going to take a bit of time, but over the course of the season he has made a big contribution. I don't forget the significance of some of the saves he has made."

"Simon hasn't ever cost us a game, but he has certainly gained us points. He's an excellent goalkeeper."

An excellent goalkeeper who is now in danger of losing his starting position between the posts.
