Oakland Raiders Rumors: Derek Carr First Rookie to Start in 2014? Fresno St. QB Making Case to Start Over Matt Schaub [VIDEO]

The NFL’s quietest rookie quarterback might be the first one to see NFL action as Derek Carr could be set to unseat Matt Schaub in Oakland.

The Raiders have a decision to make when it comes to the quarterback position and according to Rant Sports, the team could be the first to pull the trigger on their rookie quarterback.

“The Raiders coaching staff has already made it clear that they feel comfortable with starting Carr if it came to it, and it very well may if Schaub’s elbow injury persists. At the same time, it might just be the excuse they need to bench the interception-happy veteran while giving their quarterback of the future a shot to get his feet wet this season.

We’ll see what happens when Week 1 rolls around, but odds are Carr will be starting sooner rather than later. You can count on it.”

Of the three quarterbacks on the Raiders’ roster, Schaub has been the worst by a landslide. Schaub is only completing 51.1 percent of his passes and hasn't registered a touchdown pass while nursing his elbow injury. Carr has been much better as he is completing 59.4 percent of his throws and has a 72.8 passer rating to Schaub’s 55.1.

Raiders Interested in Trading for C.J. Spiller, Stephen Hill?

Undrafted free agent Matt McGloin has been the best of the three, but it appears that is the Raiders are going to play a young player it will be Carr. McGloin has been the subject of trade talks in the recent weeks and could be dealt before the beginning of the season.

The Raiders are undergoing a major franchise overhaul and have preached patience when it comes to getting back into contention, but that overhaul cannot truly progress until Carr is the teams starting quarterback.
