John Calipari Says Cleveland Made The Right Choice in Hiring David Blatt [VIDEO]

Kentucky head coach John Calipari says the Cleveland Cavaliers made the right decision in hiring coach David Blatt even though the latter has no previous NBA experience.

Calipari, who was rumored to be the top choice of the Cavaliers but instead elected to stay in Kentucky, said Blatt is the better choice to coach the Cavaliers. He made the statement during an interview on Sirius XM NBA Radio. He said, via Cleveland.com: "David Blatt can really coach. He's a better choice than me to coach that team. I coached against him. I'm not sitting here just saying it. I coached against him in FIBA basketball. I watched him coach Russia, the guy can coach, OK? Those players, all they want is respect. If they respect you as a coach they're going to play like crazy."

Calipari was rumored to have been offered $60 million to coach the Cavs in early June. During that time, the Cavs were still positioning themselves to regain the services of superstar LeBron James. The four-time MVP eventually announced that he was leaving the Miami Heat to re-join his hometown squad in early July.

With the Cavs set to add another All-Star in Kevin Love, the team figures to have the best trio in the league in James, Love, and Irving. Calipari didn't mince words in sizing up the team.

"It's going to be scary seeing how good Kyrie (Irving) is when now you gotta defer a little bit with this; how good Love is," he said. "We haven't even seen how good those two are going to be. And it's kinda like when Michael would grab guys and all of a sudden you saw Scottie (Pippen) how good he could be or (Dennis) Rodman. ... All of them, all of them. That's what LeBron will do. It's crazy what's going to go on in Cleveland."
