WWE Rumors: Backstage Update On Alberto Del Rio's Departure And Rey Mysterio's Contract Dispute [VIDEO]

More information has come to light as to why WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio was fired and on the contract dispute between the WWE and Rey Mysterio.

Update On Bully Ray's Departure From TNA

Del Rio, who has a one-year no-compete clause in the United States that he plans to fight, was initially told by a sympathetic Vince McMahon that he'd be suspended before Triple H called him to inform him he was released following an incident where he slapped a WWE employee based on an alleged racist comment made about him.

More details have come to light as to why the WWE opted to fire Del Rio. There were some reports that Triple H told Del Rio that the company would bring him back in six months once the heat died down, but Del Rio is reportedly not interested in returning.

A similar incident could be part of the reason why the WWE released Del Rio.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, The Big Show allegedly roughed up former WWE road producer Andrew Green during the filming of a backstage segment in the past and it led to a lawsuit from Green against The Big Show and the WWE.

The WWE believed that if they didn't fire Del Rio, having another incident would strengthen Green's case against the company and The Big Show after Del Rio allegedly slapped WWE social media worker Cody Barbierri. The company also feared that if Del Rio wasn't removed then Barbierri would sue them, strengthening both cases.

This all factored into the release of Del Rio, who made his debut for AAA in Mexico at the TripleMania XXII event that aired the same day as SummerSlam last Sunday. Del Rio has said he is angry that the WWE hasn't fired Barbierri for his racist comments and he has painted the WWE as a racist company.

Regarding Mysterio, the WWE was reportedly furious after he appeared in a video at the AAA event where he congratulated the company on 22 years of success and told fans he'd see them soon. A graphic saying #FreeRey then flashed on the screen, likely alluding to Mysterio's contract dispute with the WWE.

As has been noted in the past, the WWE used a clause on Mysterio's contract that renewed it automatically for one more year due to the fact that he missed significant time due to injury The WWE felt that Mysterio owed it time and thus they exercised the option.

This reportedly came after Mysterio had a handshake agreement with Triple H to go their separate ways until Vince McMahon intervened and renewed the option.

Rey's current deal now expires next summer, but the Superstar remains sidelined with a hand injury and hasn't appeared in a WWE ring since the Monday Night RAW episode on April 7 that aired the night after WrestleMania XXX.

There is no telling how this situation will play out between these two sides, but it appears as though the company is going to hold Mysterio to his contract, while it could all end up in court.
