Cleveland Browns Rumors: Johnny Manziel Late for Team Meeting Reason He Won't Start Versus Redskins? [VIDEO]

Johnny Manziel was late for Cleveland Browns team meetings on Monday and now he will not start against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. As close as the two announcements came out of Cleveland, you would think they are related, but the Browns maintain they have handled the matter internally.

The NFL to Return to Los Angeles in 2016?

Browns coach Mike Pettine insisted that the team's decision to start veteran Brian Hoyer for the second consecutive week has nothing to do with Manziel being late for a five-minute team meeting. Manziel spoke about the incident and said that he and a handful of other rookies read the schedule wrong and were a few minutes late for the meeting.

Reports are that Manziel has been at the Browns facility "for about four hours,” over the weekend as he studied the game film from the team’s loss against the Detroit Lions. Manziel was on time for bed check on Sunday.

The Browns are expect to name a Week 1 starter at quarterback in the coming week and it doesn’t look good for Manziel to start right out the gate. Many believe that if the open competition is close by the end of this weekend’s game that Hoyer will be named the starter going into the regular season.

Manziel was selected No. 22 overall by the Cleveland Browns in May’s NFL draft with the expectations of being the quarterback of the future.
