Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning threw to newly acquired wide receiver Wes Welker for the first time on Wednesday at Duke University's football facility, according to ESPN.com. Manning told ESPN Senior NFL Insider Chris Mortensen that he is already making a connection with the star receiver.
Peyton and Eli Manning are working out this week at Duke University with Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe coached both brothers in college, serving as an offensive coordinator with Peyton at Tennessee and a head coach with Eli at Ole Miss. Cutcliffe also worked with Peyton when he was rehabbing a neck injury in the offseason before signing with Denver.
Both quarterbacks brought three receivers: Peyton Manning has Broncos teammates Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Welker; Eli brought Giants teammates Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz and Louis Murphy. With the exception of appearances together in Pro Bowls, Wednesday marks the first time that Manning has thrown to Welker, which will likely be a focal point of Denver's offense in 2013.
