After a number of injuries over the weekend, the New York Jets have contacted free agent Asante Samuel to gauge his interest in a return to the NFL.
Ryan Mallett Receiving Zero Trade Interest
The Jets lost both Dee Milliner (high ankle sprain) and rookie Dexter McDougle (torn ACL) this past weekend and have sought out veteran help as Week 2 of the preseason begins. Mixed reports have emerged about Samuel’s interest in joining the Jets, but some say that the 11-year veteran isn't interested in New York.

Samuel is expected to take his time in looking for a new team and he isn't expected to take a pay cut in order to play. The Jets aren't looking to break the bank on a player like Samuel so unless he is desperate to play, the two sides do not look like an ideal match.
Samuel spent the last two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons after being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. Samuel is a four-time Pro Bowler and was a First-Team All- Pro in 2007 with the New England Patriots.
Jets reached out to Asante Samuel but are unlikely to sign him. Would've liked to see what Asante has left but at least Idzik is looking. — JetsCenter (@nyjetscenter) August 10, 2014
