PGA Championship Vegas Odds: Rory McIlroy Downplays 'Rory Era' to Media; Opens As 5 to 1 Favorite at Valhalla [VIDEO]

Rory McIlroy’s recent success has prompted many to call this the period the “Rory Era,” but McIlroy shot back and said that it is way too soon to declare him the next great in golf.

Tiger Woods' Agent Says Woods' Status 'Too Soon' to Call

McIlroy spoke to members of the media for this weekend’s PGA Championship and said that two straight wins doesn't make this the start of a dynasty.

"Sometimes I feel that people are too quick to jump to conclusions and jump on the bandwagon and jump on certain things,'' he said. "I've had a great run of golf and I've played well over the past few months.

"I said at the start of the year that golf was looking for someone to put their hand up and sort of become one of the dominant players in the game. I felt like I had the ability to do that, and it's just nice to be able to win a few tournaments and get back to where I feel like I should be, which is near the top of the world rankings and competing in majors and winning golf tournaments.

"So I'm not necessarily sure you can call that an era or the start of an era, but I'm just really happy with where my golf game is at the minute and I just want to try and continue that for as long as possible.’'

McIlroy has three wins on the tour this year including his back-to-back wins at the Open Championship and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Rory was rewarded for his superb play by being named No. 1 in the world after losing the ranking more than 17 months ago.

PGA Denies Dustin Johnson Suspension

McIlroy became the first player since Tiger Woods to win a tournament after winning a major championship. If Rory wins the PGA Championship, he will become the first player to win three straight tournaments since Tiger won five straight in 2007-08.

McIlroy enters the PGA Championship a 5 to 1 favorite with Adam Scott (12 to 1) and Sergio Garcia (15 to 1) coming in at second and third, respectively.
