Miami Marlins Rumors: Fish Interested In Ian Kennedy And Other Starting Pitching At Deadline [VIDEO]

Having seen their ace go down in the 2014 season, the Miami Marlins are interested in shoring up their starting rotation for the rest of the season and beyond through the trade market this week.

The Miami Herald reports that the Marlins are interested in adding to their staring pitching corps before Thursday's MLB non-waiver trade deadline and have a list of pitchers they may go after, including San Diego Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy.

Kennedy, 29, is 8-9 with a 3.66 ERA and 143 strikeouts through 22 starts this season, but he was sidelined from his latest start with an oblique injury.

Miami is reportedly also interested in Tommy Milone from the Oakland Athletics and the Arizona Diamondbacks' Wade Miley.

Milone, a southpaw, is under contract until 2018 and has reportedly requested a trade after the Athletics sent him down to the minors following the acquisition of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs. Milone, 27, is 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 16 starts this season

The left-handed Miley could fit in well at Marlins Park due to the spacious dimensions and the fact that he is a fly ball pitcher. Miley, 27, is also under contract for the next three seasons and is 6-7 with a 4.34 ERA and 131 strikeouts thus far this season.

Miami is hoping to bolster its rotation for the future as the starting pitching corps is led by Jose Fernandez, who was lost to Tommy John surgery and Henderson Alvarez, who is 7-5 with a 2.62 ERA.

Any particular deal hinges on what each team would ask for in return, which could stop the Marlins from potentially pulling the trigger on a deal come Thursday's deadline.

Miami (52-53) sits in third place in the National League East, six games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals. The Marlins opened up a potential make-or-break series with the Nats in Miami Monday night with a 7-5 victory, and the outcome of the series could very well determine if they are buyers or sellers come Thursday.

Miami, which is 4.5 games out of the second wild-card spot, is hoping to make the playoffs for the first time since winning it all in 2003, and could very well make moves in order to do help its chances going forward.
