Terrell Suggs Calls Out Joe Flacco for Lack of Leadership? Ravens Need More Vocal QB [VIDEO]

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs acknowledges he's traded barbs with quarterback Joe Flacco in the past. Now, Suggs is anxious to see how Flacco response with Suggs calling him out in public.

NFL won't tell Baltimore Ravens when or how long in terms or Ray Rice's impending suspension

BaltimoreRavens.com is reporting that Suggs is accusing Flacco of shirking his leadership responsibilities in times when the team faces adversity.

"He's not the most vocal," Suggs said as training camp opened Wednesday. "But sometimes we may need that. He may have to cuss somebody out. He may have to cuss me out. It's good to hear your quarterback get after somebody sometimes. I think it will be a good thing."

BaltimoreRavens.com suggests that Flacco is one of those dreaded "lead by example" types, which sometimes doesn't work at the quarterback position. NFL.com refers to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's willingness to "tug on a teammate's helmet and scream in his face if the situation merits it. To this point, Flacco hasn't been that type of leader."

No need for Jerry Jones to fire Jason Garrett until Jones decides to get serious about winning

Flacco engaged in playful trash-talking with Suggs during training camp last season, BaltimoreRavens.com reported, and Suggs said Flacco has it in him to get angry with a teammate.

"He has cussed me out before, but Joe knows how to do his little subliminal slick shots," Suggs said. "We're looking for a little bit more direct. ... I'm really looking forward to seeing Joe Flacco come into his own. Be one of those premier, elite quarterbacks and talk to his team."

Flacco was supposed to have answered the question about being an elite quarterback when he won a Super Bowl after the 2012 season. But as NFL.com reported, that team already had an established leader in Ray Lewis and a not-to-shabby backup in Ed Reed.

Now that those two have departed, the Ravens need a spark from Flacco, Suggs suggests, to prevent another 8-8 record in 2014.
