According to the Ottawa Sun, Giroux was arrested and spent the night in jail after repeatedly grabbing a male police officer's buttocks. While full details are sketchy, it is believed that alcohol was a factor in his behavior.

According to the report, the Ottawa Police Department has declined to comment on the details of the incident unless charges are laid, but sources and witnesses say the incident occurred at The Great Canadian Cabin in the Byward Market club district in Ottawa, leading to the arrest.

Giroux, 26, was expected to be released from jail on Wednesday and will not face any criminal charges. Witnesses told the Sun that Giroux was seen inside of a police cruiser around 9 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Giroux is a two-time NHL All-Star and a native of Hearst in Northern Ontario, but he has lived in the Ottawa area for the past several years.

The Flyers issued a statement on Giroux's arrest via NHL.com on Wednesday.

"We are aware of the reports surrounding Claude Giroux. Until we have more information we will withhold making any further comment," the team said.

Giroux has been a key part of the Flyers the last few seasons and finished third in the league with 86 points in the 2013-14 campaign while ranking fourth in the NHL with 58 assists and second on the Flyers with 28 goals.

Giroux was a finalist for the NHL's Hart Trophy as the Most Valuable Player this season along with the Anaheim Duck's Ryan Getzlaf (31-56--87) and eventual winner Sidney Crosby (36-68--104) of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Giroux had two goals and led the Flyers with four assists and six points in the NHL Playoffs, where the team was ousted in the opening round by the New York Rangers in seven games.
