Maryland will officially become a member of the Big Ten Tuesday, but that hasn't stopped the Terrapins from having a rival within the conference. Penn State’s James Franklin has sparked a war of words with Maryland coach Randy Edsall before the two teams even met.
Franklin has made some enemies since joining the Nittany Lions with his “dominate the state” mentality and it has rubbed some coaches the wrong way. Edsall told the York Dispatch that his team will do the talking on the field and not in the media.
"We're not gonna boast and brag. We're more about substance at Maryland. ... We're gonna worry about ourselves and not worry about anything else. Talk is cheap."
Franklins' ties to the Maryland area should concern Edsall as Franklin is known to be a master recruiter and a great coach that can turn kids away from their home state. Franklin has the Nittany Lions among the best recruiting classes in the country for 2015 and brought in a solid haul for 2014 in his limited time.
Maryland will meet Penn State in Happy Valley on Nov. 1 and it will be there first trip to Beaver Stadium since 1992. Penn State leads the all-time series with Maryland 35-1-1 with Maryland’s lone win coming in 1961. As Franklin and Penn State look to continue their dominance of Maryland, the Terrapins will look to get their feet wet in their first year in the Big Ten.

Jab from James Franklin. Jab back from Randy Edsall. So it begins: "We're more about substance at Maryland" https://t.co/PBCubebplm
