Superstar Carmelo Anthony is looking to make a decision on where to play next season by the middle of July, according to reports.
A source close to Yahoo! Sports said that Anthony will begin talking with teams like the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, LA Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls on July 1, which is the first day of the NBA's free agency period. Melo is said to be looking forward to visiting the cities of the teams that are interested in his services.
Curiously, the source did not cite the Miami Heat as a team that Melo will meet by next week.
The same Yahoo! source added that Anthony's heart remains with the Knicks but the star forward has a lot of doubts on the future of the franchise. It is believed that Anthony is doubtful on how long it would take for the Knicks to turn around its fortunes, and how Derek Fisher and Phil Jackson would perform in their first year as coach and team president, respectively.
Still, there's one thing that the Knicks have an advantage over the other teams: money. The team can give him $130 million over five years, while other teams can only give him $96 million and four years. The same source said that even if Jackson discussed the possibility of Anthony taking a pay cut so that the Knicks can afford more free agents, the new Knicks president is willing to give Melo the maximum contract if it's the only way to retain his services.
