Another domino has fallen to Thursday’s NBA Draft as the Denver Nuggets have acquired Arron Afflalo from the Orlando Magic for Evan Fournier and the No. 56 pick. Afflalo returns to Denver after spending three years of his career with the Nuggets from 2009-12’.
Afflalo returning to the Nuggets is a huge get for Denver as they continue to build around solid team play as opposed to having one star carry the load. Afflalo has come a long way since his time with the Pistons and Nuggets due to his increased production and much improved play.
In his time with the Pistons and Nuggets, Afflalo never averaged above 12 points a game, but came into his own and averaged 17.4 points with the Magic. The Magic get another pick and a player in Fournier that has shown much promise in the early goings of his career. In his 16.9 minutes per game, the 21-year-old Fournier averaged 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
This trade eliminates the possibility of the Magic obtaining the No. 1 overall pick from the Cleveland Cavaliers seeing that Afflalo was the centerpiece of any deal. Reports had surfaced that Cavaliers favored the Magic deal to the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings.
A rumored deal had the Cavaliers trading the No. 1 overall pick for Afflalo, the No. 4 pick and the No. 12, but now it seems unlikely that the Cavaliers will trade out of the top spot in the draft. Considering how Afflalo could had been used in a potential blockbuster, you have to be scratching your head with what the Magic got in exchange.
Magic just traded Arron Afflalo to Nuggets for #56 pick and Evan Fournier. HUH?!?! Afflalo was great last year.
