Rajon Rondo Trade Rumors: Deal Planned If Celtics Can't Land Kevin Love? [VIDEO]

Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics have reached a crossroads.

With the All-Star guard set to enter the final season of his five-year, $55 million deal, the Celtics are contemplating whether to pencil Rondo into their long-terms plans by inking him to an extension or deal him to another team, perhaps as soon as by the end of tonight's NBA draft, and committing to a longterm rebuilding effort.

Knicks eyeing Rajon Rondo?

Coming off a 57-loss season, there's much uncertainty in Boston these days as to what direction one of the league's most fabled franchises should take in turning things around. And the question of what to do with Rondo is at the heart of much of the chatter.

According to ESPN, the Celtics are also rumored to be major players in the chase to land disgruntled Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, and some even speculate what comes of Boston's pursuit of him will directly affect what team president Danny Ainge and management ultimately decide to do about Rondo.

Rajon Rondo annoyed by trade rumors?

Rondo has stressed he wants to win now and without Boston landing someone the caliber of Love, there's little chance of that happening anytime soon, not even with the team having stockpiled as many as 10 first-round draft picks over the next five seasons, including the No. 6 and No. 17 selections in this year's draft.

"I trust a lot in Danny," Rondo told ESPN. "He's turned this thing around before. I have faith in him. I believe in Danny. I think we do need another big-time player. But that's all his job. He's working on that now, and I completely have faith in him."
