Los Angeles plays the third game of a six-game road trip while San Diego seeks finishes up a five-game homestand. The Padres topped the Dodgers 6-5 in the opener of the series Friday night before the Dodgers got even with a 4-2 win on Saturday.. 

Los Angeles sits in second place in the National League West, four games behind the first place San Francisco Giants while San Diego comes into play in in fourth place, trailing San Francisco by 12.5 games.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (8-3, 3.18 ERA) toes the rubber for the Dodgers while San Diego counters with Eric Stults, who is 2-9 with a 5.76 ERA..

Padres third baseman Chase Headley  received an epidural for a herniated disc in his back.

"Chase has been bothered by a sore back. He's been playing through it. He's able to play. From the first day of Spring Training, players get banged up," Padres manager Bud Black said per MLB.com. "We'll see where this goes the next couple of days. It's been affecting a little bit of his lower half as well." 

Padres outfielder Seth Smith paces the team with a .288 average and eight homers and has four homers off of the Dodgers this season.

Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon leads the MLB with 39 stolen bases and eight triples on the season while first baseman Adrian Gonzalez leads the team with 12 homers.

Los Angeles Outfielder Yasiel Puig left Friday's game with a mild left hip muscle strain and is uncertain for Sunday. Puig ranks third in the National League with a .321 average and ranks fourth in on-base percentage (.411) and slugging percentage (.538) and OPS (.949). Puig is tied for the Dodgers lead with 44 RBI and has launched 11 homers this season.

Two NL West rivals rekindle their rivalry when the Dodgers and Padres take the field at Petco Park for the third and final game of this weekend series in San Diego.
