In total, day two of the 2014 World Cup saw 11 goals and one potential candidate for goal of the tournament. Mexico’s Giovani dos Santos, Holland’s Robin van Persie and Australia’s Tim Cahill were just a few of the players responsible for Friday’s onslaught of offensive efficiency.

Mexico 1-0 Cameroon (click here for a complete match report)
Goals: Mexico—Peralta 61'

Not even a torrential downpour could distinguish Mexico's potent attack against Cameroon, seeing El Tri capture an impressive 1-0 victory. A cultured turn and strike from Giovani dos Santos would be denied by Cameroon’s Charles Itandje, but Oribe Peralta was able to slot the rebound home from there. Mexico are now tied with Brazil atop Group A with three points. Brazil, however, carry the tiebreaker of goal differential.

Goals: Spain—Alonso 27' (penalty); Holland—Persie 44', 72' Robben 53, 80' De Vrij 64'
It took Holland four years, but revenge was finally exacted at the Arena Fonte Nova on Friday. Despite conceding a penalty in the 27th minute, Robin van Persie and company were able to deliver an onslaught of five unanswered goals, capturing a 5-1 victory over Spain. With the victory, Holland now sit atop Group B with three points.

 Goals: Chile—Alexis 12' Valdivia 14' Jean Beausejour 90’+; Australia—Cahill 35'

It didn’t take long for Chile to exert its will over the Group B minnows, Australia. After all of 12 minutes, La Roja were able to capture an insurmountable 1-0 lead en route to a 3-1 victory. The Netherlands still own the tiebreaker in Group B, but Chile are in a prime position to advance to the Round of 16 and beyond.
