Ever since Seth Rollins left The Shield and turned on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns by hitting them with steel chairs, there was speculation that The Shield might get a new third member, but reports indicate that The Shield may not be a trio again.
WWE Takes Shot At CM Punk On Facebook
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there are currently no plans for a third party to join Reigns and Ambrose despite the WWE teasing a possible third member joining forces with them and Reigns joking with UFC Women's Champion Ronda Rousey on Twitter about looking for a third member. It appears as though Reigns and Ambrose will be pushed as a pair going forward.
There was once talk of having Ambrose turn on The Shield a little while back, but the WWE opted to have Rollins turn instead. It's said that it wasn't a case of the WWE thinking Rollins would be better in the role than Ambrose, it was just a late decision to make Rollins the one to turn.
Randy Orton Held Off RAW Due To Injury
The WWE is also reportedly going with the thinking that Rollins isn't an official member of Evolution but just working with them to take down Reigns and Ambrose. Despite the fact that Rollins aligned himself with Triple H and Randy Orton, the company isn't going to book him as a third member of Evolution.
It was speculated that Rollins was there to take Batista's spot in the trio since he will be out until August promoting his Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and isn't expected to return until SummerSlam.
Despite Batista being absent, the WWE is using the Rollins storyline as a way to fill the void rather than actually having Rollins join Evolution officially. There is no word on what the role will be for Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose at Money in the Bank on June 29 as of now, but there were reports of an Ambrose vs. Rollins singles match floating around.
The WWE is still trying to decide what to have Rollins wear now that he is out of The Shield, and it has been a point of conversation with creative in recent weeks.
Despite the split, The Shield will not get a new member and Rollins will not be seen as an official member of Evolution, but the feud will last the majority of the summer.
