Attorneys for former NFL star Darren Sharper have requested more time to review evidence against him in an ongoing rape case that could leave the him behind bars for the rest of his life.
Sharper appeared in the L.A. courtroom of Judge Renee Korn on Tuesday where his request was granted and a new hearing was scheduled for July 16. WWLTV reports the proceedings hearing are critical for Sharper because the judge will determine at that point if prosecutors have enough evidence against him in L.A. for him to face trial.

The 38-year Sharper is accused of raping as many as nine women in five different states, first drugging them with the sleep-inducing drug Ambien then assaulting them. Formal charges have also been filed against him Arizona, with cases pending in New Orleans and Las Vegas.
Sharper has now been jailed without bail for more than three months. He was originally taken into custody last January in L.A. after two women there claimed he drugged and raped them after meeting at a West Hollywood nightclub.

Sharper was initially released on $200,000 bond, but after similar allegations were leveled against him in other states that was increased to $1 million Prosecutors in Arizona formally indicted him in March after investigators allegedly found DNA evidence linking him to one of his accusers.
Sharper has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. After the allegations first became public the NFL Network fired him from his job as an analyst.
