After another weekend of pictures surrounding Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns' coach Mike Pettine was barraged with questions concerning the former Texas A&M quarterback. Pettine took the questions in stride and stressed that he isn't concerned about Manziel just yet.
Pettine believes that constantly being followed by cameras adds to the legend of Johnny Football and Pettine himself has had some less than flattering pictures taken.
"I'm not concerned," Pettine said Tuesday after the Cleveland Browns minicamp practice. "I would become concerned if it was something criminal, and I would be concerned if it affected his job.
"I think a lot of our guys, when they leave here if they were followed around, you'd get some very similar pictures. I don't know about an inflatable swan, but I think you'd get some pictures.”
"I was involved with an event this weekend," Pettine said, "and if there were cameras at certain times it probably wouldn't have been the most flattering. We had a good time but we were responsible. When it becomes irresponsible or it becomes part of something that involves breaking the law or we feel is a potential problem. we'll step in.”
Pettine recently made headlines by announcing the Browns will not be taking part in HBO’s Hard Knocks due to him being a first year head coach. Pettine could be looking to avoid distractions in his first season as well as keeping Manziel away from the national coverage.
Manziel is in the middle of a quarterback battle with 2013 starter Brian Hoyer, but Manziel is expected to be the future of the franchise regardless of Hoyer’s success. The media has been barred from talking to Manziel until at least July in an attempt to take some heat away from him.
