Carl "The Cobra" Froch is coming off a tremendous knockout victory over British rival George Groves in front of over 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium in England, so it isn't surprising he's considering retirement on such a high note.
With a fight against Andre Ward looking increasingly unlikely, and unfavorable for Froch as Father Time does his work, there doesn't appear to be many more major fights out there for him. Except, perhaps, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The Mexican has a huge fan base, and finally has put the Brian Vera chapter of his career behind him by knocking him off for a second time. "A fight with Froch would be huge. I am already looking forward to it happening," Chavez Jr. said.
Sakio Bika has also called out Froch, with the carrot of a unification bout being dangled. "Carl Froch says he would like to fight in Las Vegas because he has never fought there," said Bika. "Well, I would fight him there and that would be a fight everyone would want to see. When you hold three belts in one division, then you are the man. It's something to look back on when you retire to say you held three belts."
Froch's people ruled that out though, citing that it doesn't work financially for a star like Froch. "The Bika fight, from a financial perspective, isn't really up there," Froch's promoter Barry Hearn said.
Froch himself told ESPN.com that fights against Bika, or mandatory challenger James DeGale don't interest him at this point in his career, mentioning Chavez Jr. and Ward as the only bouts catching his eye. "Chavez - definitely, that's a big fight that could happen in Las Vegas," Froch said before turning to Ward.
"Andre Ward? On my night I beat Ward, so that's got potential - he's the only guy out there who I've faced that I've not beaten. That's an automatic one that makes sense. Unfortunately for Ward, it's not a big fight in America. People aren't that interested in him, which is a shame but you can see why."
