Carmelo Anthony Free Agency News: Dallas Mavericks Will Pursue Knicks Star? [VIDEO]

Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks have officially entered the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes.

Fansided.com reports the Mavs are pondering the idea of offering Anthony a deal that matches or even surpasses any he might attract from other expected suitors such as the Knicks, Bulls and Rockets.

Carmelo won't wait on Knicks

"Dallas has the cash to go after Anthony straight up," Basketball Insiders Steve Kyler told Fansided. "Dirk Nowitzki has already told the team he'll work with them to get them the cap space to sign another significant player. So Dallas could get to the $20-$22.5 million number the Knicks are expected to offer. They could present a team built around Monta Ellis, Jose Calderon and Nowitzki with a proven coach in Rick Carlisle."

Anthony has previously stressed money may not be the overriding factor in whatever decision he makes, as after 11 seasons without coming close to winning a title he's reached the point where winning is the most important thing to him.

Carmelo Anthony leaving Knicks?

The NBA's second leading scorer recently met with newly minted Knicks basketball of operations president Phil Jackson where the two talked long and extensively about how best to get the struggling franchise back on course.

As for Chicago, Joakim Noah has been rumored to be recruiting Anthony to Chicago as far back as the All-Star game, convinced that a core of himself, Anthony, Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson could get the Bulls over the hump.
