What: Round Three of the French Open
When: Thursday May 29 5AM-7PM ET
Where: Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France
Live Stream: ESPN2 & Tennis Channel
The third round and fifth day of the French Open is under way Thursday and the remaining competition looks to move one step closer on the clay. The men’s tournament is going as planned so far as no major players have been eliminated. Here is your schedule for the fifth day at Roland Garros.
Rafael Nadal vs. Dominic Thiem
Richard Gasquet vs. Carlos Berlocq
David Ferrer vs. Simone Bolelli
Gael Monfils vs. Jan-Lennard Struff
Andy Murray vs. Marinko Matosevic
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez vs. Adrian Mannarino
Best Matchup: Rafael Nadal vs. Dominic Thiem
This isn't the best men’s matchup because Thiem can match Nadal on the court, but more that Nadal has the handle the pressure of seeing a number one seed lose the day before. The pressure for Nadal is large as he enters the third round of a tournament he historically owns. Nadal could be due for an upset at the French, but will that honor come from Thiem?
Nadal looks like the best player in the field through two rounds and could continue his warpath through the inferior competition. Clay and Nadal are just a match made in heaven and he will use it to his full advantage possibly all the way to the championship.
Prediction: Nadal, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2
