Sammy Sosa Cubs Reunion? Manny Ramirez Joins Chicago Triple A Team As Coach, Mentor, 'Slammin Sammy Next? [VIDEO]

Next up Sammy Sosa?

Days after the Cubs inked Manny Ramirez, who has been suspended twice for PED violations, to a deal as the player/coach of their Triple A affiliate, speculation is building that one-time franchise favorite Sosa could be next.

"I don't know where things stand with Sammy right now," Cubs president Theo Epstein said of Sosa. "But I do know that it was important to us that Manny has been very up front about admitting his mistakes, that Manny was very cooperative with Major League Baseball and that Manny is interested in making sure younger players don't make the same mistakes that he made. Those are things that made this worth doing."

The 45-year-old Sosa has never admitted to any wrongdoing, clearly making a relationship with him harder to swallow for management than it was with Ramirez, who also previously spent seven years in Boston playing under then Red Sox GM Epstein.

Though Sosa spent 13 years with the Cubs, smashing 545 home runs during that time, the team decided against sending him an invitation when the organization celebrated its 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field just last month.

But all could soon be forgiven, if Sosa, as management feels Ramirez has, decides to take the high road.

"I know I am nearing the end of my playing days, but I have a lot of knowledge to pass on to the next generation -- both what to do and what not to do,'' Ramirez told reporters after his hiring was announced.
