Josh Gordon Suspension Update: Cleveland Browns Attempting to Phase Out Troubled Receiver? [VIDEO]

Are the Cleveland Browns looking to phase out troubled receiver Josh Gordon?

Last season's leading receiver with 1,646 yards faces a season-long suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy after reportedly testing positive for marijuana, and on Wednesday team GM Ray Farmar told Cleveland.com "he doesn't think a superstar receiver is critical to a team's success."

Josh Gordon suspended

Any suspension incurred by the 23-year-old Gordon would be his second since the start of the 2013 season, when he was banned for two games for yet another violation of the league-wide substance abuse policy.

Despite all the drama, Gordon was on hand this week for organized team activities and agent Drew Rosenhaus is already rumored to be pettioning the league for an appeal. As a multi-policy abuser, some are speculating Gordon may have to seek formal reinstatement from commissioner Roger Goodell once any suspension is officially handed down.

Josh Gordon wants Browns to draft quarterback

"I would say 'how important are those guys?''' Farmer added of Gordon's long term status with the team. "Name the last big-time receiver to win a Super Bowl. Name the last mega-guy. Gordon matters to me because I like the guy and I think he's a really good player, but at the end of the day, when you look at the teams that have these mega-receivers, name the last guy that won a Super Bowl? There are none. The last guy that really helped his team get there was T.O. (Terrell Owens)."

Before news of Gordon's latest troubles surfaced, the Browns seemed to be priming themselves for a season that ultimately could have had Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel lobbing passes in the direction of the super-athletic Gordon.

The Browns selected the former Texas A&M star with the No. 22 pick of the most recent NFL draft.
