San Francisco 49ers star outside linebacker Aldon Smith, has pleaded no contest to three felony counts of possessing illegal assault rifles and misdemeanor DUI. This is the first of many court dates for Smith who has not been able to stay out of trouble since his NFL career took off.
Smith’s sentencing hearing was set for July 25, which happened to be 13 days before the 49ers open up their preseason against the Baltimore Ravens. The deal Smith signed includes a 2012 incident when Smith fired his handgun in the air at a house party he was hosting. The plea deal will resolve both incidents and clear a lot off of Smith's legal plate. Court reporter Tracey Kaplan tweeted the case as it occurred and had the play but play on Smith’s actions.

Smith recently attempted to rehab his image in an interview with Comcast SportsNet via Sports Illustrated’s Bryan Rose.
"I’m a good person, and the people who know me know I’m a good person," Smith said
"Maybe after this is over, you can tell your friends I’m a good person. Anybody who hangs around me can tell that. A lot of these things are being painted in a picture that’s not true.”
Smith still has charges pending resulting from his alleged bomb threat in LAX. Smith is expected to face a misdemeanor charge for that incident. The NFL has yet to discipline Smith, but many believe he will receive no more than a four game suspension.
