As Ronda Rousey fights draw closer, talk often turns to discussion of Rousey vs. men. Prior to meeting Sara McCann, a big topic of discussion was Rousey's ability to face boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now with Alexis Davis as her next opponent, UFC welterweight fighter Jake Ellenberger is on record stating Rousey's capable of beating a lot of male mixed martial artists.
"Oh, yeah. She could and she would," Ellenberger said. "I've known her for a few years but what really stands out with her is she works harder than most people in this sport. Male or female, it doesn't matter.
Miesha Tate: Rousey-Cyborg fight "must happen"
"She's always in the gym whether she has a fight coming up or not. And it shows ... There's no secret to success but hard work, and she's one of the hardest-working people in the sport in my opinion ... She absolutely could beat a lot of the guys in that division."
Pretty soon they might need to bring some males in to challenge Rousey, as she's raced to a 9-0 record in the women's bantamweight division. Another fight many MMA fans have clamored for is Rousey vs. Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino, whom Rousey claims she'd be willing to fight.
Rousey won't be fined for comments about Justino
She has also frequently taunted Cyborg as a steroid abuser, and UFC president Dana White's been clear he has no interest in bringing Justino to the company based on her checkered PED past.
Davis has seized on her comments about Justino, and prior wars of words with Miesha Tate, to build her own verbal attacks.
"It's all karma. Karma is going to come right back at you ... That's why I'm going to win the belt. Karma is going to come back to her. There's some boundaries you have to have. But I can only imagine the pressure she feels in this situation. She's brought it on herself, all this s**t talking, calling people out," Davis said.
"She's not a huge Cyborg fan. I think she has to push it every single time. That's not my personality. I keep trying, it just sounds stupid when it comes out ... I believe if I were a little more vocal I would have gotten the title shot already."
