New York Knicks Rumors: Derek Fisher Favorite to be Next Coach, 'Zen Master' Running Out of Options? [VIDEO]

Steve Kerr is on his way to Golden State to be the next coach of the Warriors, so where do Phil Jackson and Knicks go from here? Reports are that Oklahoma City Thunder guard, Derek Fisher, is the front runner to land the job in New York.

Fisher was the point guard for Jackson when he coached the Lakers and now it seems he wants to make Fisher the Knicks next coach. Fisher is still in the middle of a heated NBA playoffs as a role player for the Thunder, but he could he consider pulling a Jason Kidd and jumping right to the bench from the court.

The New York Daily News’ Frank Isola gave the takeaway for what to expect out of the coaching search going forward.

"Oklahoma City guard Derek Fisher, who played under Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers, is emerging as a leading candidate to join Jackson in New York now that Jackson's first choice, Steve Kerr, has signed with the Golden State Warriors. Fisher, of course, has zero head coaching experience but Jackson believes that Fisher has the intelligence and worth ethic to become a successful if he were to make the move from player to coach. Most recently, Jason Kidd went right from playing to being hired as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets."

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that Phil Jackson wants a coach that has experience teaching the triangle offense and could be an embodiment of himself on the bench. Jackson could soon find out that it is much better to do the job himself instead of swinging and missing on head coaching candidates.
