20-Loss Liberty Heading To NCAA Tournament

Despite losing 20 games this season, the Liberty Flames have clinched a birth in the NCAA Tournament with an 87-76 victory over Charleston Southern on Sunday to win the Big South Conference title. Liberty opened the season with eight straight losses and have never won more than three games in a row before this week.

The Flames are just the second 20-loss team to reach the NCAA Tournament. Liberty has a .429 winning percentage (15-20) which is the lowest since Oakland (Michigan) had a 12-18 record in 2005.

Liberty finished their season winning five games in a row, with Sunday's win marking their fourth game since Tuesday, taking the Big South tournament championship. Liberty ended conference play with a 6-10 record, which placed them at 10th overall for the regular season. The Flames and their cheerleaders rushed the court when the game ended, with the players piling atop one another in celebration.
