Now that the NFL draft has come and gone, the only thing left to do is look at who came out looking the best. Division by division, who had the best and worst drafts? Let's take a look at the NFC South.
Atlanta Falcons:
Best Pick: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
Worst Pick: Pass Rush
Analysis: The Falcons didn't trade up for Clowney, but they did make sure that Matt Ryan is protected for the foreseeable future. Matthews is a tank who will be a starter from day one and improve the whole offensive line. Due to missing out on Clowney, the Falcons still have question marks in the pass rush that they haven't answered in years. The Falcons will have to make due with what they have unless they expect a late addition
Grade: B+
Carolina Panthers:
Best Pick: Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri
Worst Pick: Too Many Holes
Analysis: The Panthers found great value with the picks they had, but they simply had too many holes to fill. The Panthers are hurting at receiver, offensive line and the secondary and with only six picks they couldn't fill every hole. The players they got could be very good, but they still have glaring weaknesses at a lot of key positions.
Grade: C+
New Orleans Saints:
Best Pick: Stan Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska
Worst Pick: Tackle Value
Analysis: The offensive line is getting up there in age and it would have been in the Saints' best interest to get a better value pick at tackle. The offense will still be a huge threat as long as Drew Brees and Sean Payton are in town, but adding Brandin Cooks takes them to a new level. Jean-Baptiste is a little bit of a project, but some mocks had him in the first round so the Saints grabbed incredible value.
Grade: B
Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
Best Pick: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
Worst Pick: Quarterback
Analysis: The Buccaneers grabbed a top notch target for their quarterbacks and then grabbed Seferian-Jenkins in the second round. That group has the potential to be a pretty good crop of receivers for the pass attack. The talk of the Bucs grabbing a quarterback “or two” was all a farce, but was it wise not to grab one as they plummeted down the board?
Grade: B-
