The Baltimore Ravens have made linebacker Dannell Ellerbe their top priority this offseason and expect outside linebacker Paul Kruger, who led the Super Bowl champions in sacks, to draw enough interest in free agency that he will join another team, according to ESPN's Ed Werder. Ellerbe, who signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2009, is coming of the best season of his career with career highs of 92 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
A source told ESPN that the Cleveland Browns are definitely prepared to make a move for Kruger. However, they will have to compete with the Indianapolis Colts, who's head coach Chuck Pagano worked with Kruger while serving as Baltimore's defensive coordinator, a potential selling point to bring in the linebacker.
A source also told ESPN that the Colts have interest in making Kruger the replacement for former all-pro Dwight Freeney, the franchise's career sack leader, who is also expected to draw interest when he enters free agency next week. Kruger was drafted by Baltimore in 2009 and is coming off a career-high nine sack season in 2012.
