Lolo Jones Eric LeGrand Tweet Update: LeGrand Gets Wish, Races With Jones in Spinal Cord Fundraiser [VIDEO]

Lolo Jones isn't always the most subtle or suave of professional athletes. But there are times where her outgoing, unfiltered persona produces great moments.

One of them came last weekend when Jones lined up alongside former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand to race in the Wings for Life World Run.

According to Fansided.com, the Wings for Life World Run is a global race that raises money for spinal cord injury research.

LeGrand, a defensive tackle for Rutgers, broke two vertebrae and suffered a serious spinal cord injury on a kickoff return in a 2010 game against Army, according to an account on ESPN.com. The injury left LeGrand paralyzed.

Jones unwittingly became involved in LeGrand's horrific accident in 2012 when - mistakenly thinking that Jones was familiar with his story, which had received considerable national media attention - he jokingly challenged her to a race.

After LeGrand sent a tweet to Jones saying, "want to race me?" in October of 2012, Jones replied, "Get Checked for a concussion. Clearly, u've been hit in the head... Cos u arnt beating a track athlete."

In typical Jones fashion, when she was told who LeGrand was and what happened to him, she candidly tweeted, "Great I'm gonna get murdered for that tweet. When I had no clue who that dude was.Just responding to any athlete who challenges me to a race."

On Sunday, LeGrand got his wish and competed alongside Jones. It was the inaugural event for the organization, but got help from Denver Broncos defensive end DeMarcus Ware along with Jones.

The race has a unique twist to it, according to a statement on the Wings for Life website.

"More than 35K+ runners kicked off simultaneously in 34 countries on six continents. In the global race, runners tried to avoid being caught by a 'Catcher Car,' an innovative moving finish line that pursues the runners from behind."

According to FanSided.com, 100 percent of the proceeds go to funding for a cure for spinal cord injuries. For more information on the organization, go to the Wings for Life website.
