CBSSports.com reported Monday that billionaire Trump offered his own opinion of the alleged racist comments from Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, audio recordings of which went public on both TMZ and Deadspin.

Trump piled on with his comments about Sterling in an interview with Fox News, CBSSports.com reported, calling his comments "despicable" but adding that he thought Sterling could be mentally incompetent.

He also said he thought Sterling's former girlfriend, identified as V. Stiviano, knew exactly what she was doing during that conversation.

"He got set up by a very, very bad girlfriend, let's face it," Trump told "Fox & Friends" of Sterling.

"She's called the girlfriend from hell, but what he said was terrible and despicable and very strong action is going to be taken. There's no question about it," Trump said of Sterling's girlfriend. "She's a terrible human being and he gave horrible answers and disgusting answers."

Trump also called into question the mental state of Sterling, saying that he "seems close to incompetent."

"I think he could be out of it, frankly, based on his actions," Trump said. "He could be pretty much out of it in terms of his whole mentality."

According to an ESPN report, Stiviano's lawyer released a statement Sunday afternoon that stated the tapes were legitimate. It said that the quotes came from close to an hour's worth of recorded conversation, but that Stiviano insists she did not leak to the media.

CBSSports.com said the 67-year-old Trump's comments set him up for his own controversy because of his condemnation of Sterling with extenuating circumstances. It added that Trump has dealt with his own allegations of racism in the past.
