Steve Kerr Picks Bill Parcells Brain About Winning, Coaching In NYC [VIDEO]

Steve Kerr's sport couldn't be any more different from the one Bill Parcells has long excelled at. But the approach the legendary Parcells took to earning the bottom-line results he did as the longtime leader of the New York Giants and Jets is something Kerr is convinced he can learn from as he now ponders manning the sidelines for the Knicks.

It all goes a long way in explaining why Kerr was recently willing to fly halfway across the country to meet with Parcells and pick his brain about the profession at large.

Phil Jackson to hire Steve Kerr?

The New York Post reports the jaunt was set up by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, who now happens to be Kerr's agent. Tannenbaum added Kerr has staged other trips with other prominent coaches, but the one will Parcells particularly stands out.

"Over the past year, he's had a plan and we've talked about it," Tannenbaum told The Post. "He sought out coaches that he's looked up to in order to bounce ideas off of them so when that day comes, he'll be as prepared as possible."

That time could now be upon us. Almost from the day Phil Jackson was named president of basketball operations for the Knicks last month, he has made no secret of his interest in having Kerr as his first coach.

The pair's history dates back to their time in Chicago, when in the 1990s they teamed with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen to lead the Bulls to three straight NBA titles.
