Miguel Cotto next fight: Sergio Martinez only bout at middleweight, Canelo Alvarez in his sights? [VIDEO]

After stopping Delvin Rodriguez in under four rounds the last time he was seen in the ring, Miguel Cotto is set for a middleweight bout with the top fighter in the weight class, Sergio Martinez. While a win over Martinez would be historic for Puerto Rican boxing, it could also open a door to multiple big-money opponents.

That's if Cotto stays at middleweight.

With this fight, Cotto has an opportunity to become the first Puerto Rican-born fighter to win four titles in four weight classes. Cotto has made it known that distinction is a point of pride for him, and the top reason he signed on to face "Maravilla."

Freddie Roach planning Canelo fight already?

While he has a relentless, attacking style, Cotto is still small for the 160-pound division, and hasn't indicated whether or not he plans on staying at middleweight. "I don't know if I will move back down. We have to see what happens on June 7 and then I will make my decision."

Cotto has already ruled out dropping to welterweight to take on Manny Pacquiao, but if he can beat Sergio, and Canelo Alvarez can defeat Erislandy Lara on July 12, a super fight could potentially be reached between the two.

"Kid Chocolate" calls out Cotto/Martinez winner

Prior to agreeing to face Martinez, Canelo vs. Cotto was the hot rumor bandied about--Golden Boy Promotions even offered Cotto $10 million to step in the squared circle with the Mexican superstar.

Even though Cotto decided to go for the middleweight crown, Golden Boy and Alvarez left the door wide open for the matchup to still happen. Before facing Alfredo Angulo in March, here's what Canelo had to say about Cotto.

"It's a fight we all know has to happen down the line, but it didn't happen now and we're focused on march 8th and Alfredo Angulo," Alvarez said. "And when we get to that [Cotto] we'll concentrate on that one."
