The WWE presents its Extreme Rules event just over a week from now on May 4 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. and more backstage news has come out about what the card will consist of, including the planned Intercontinental and Tag Team Championship matches as well as a Triple Threat match.
Update on Vince McMahon making the call to end The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak
The WWE has had an on-going tournament to determine the No. 1 contender for Big E's Intercontinental Championship at Extreme Rules and while the tournament finals are scheduled for this week's Monday Night RAW with Rob Van Dam taking on Bad News Barrett, two matches will branch off of that result.
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Barrett is expected to beat Van Dam and head to Extreme Rules to take on Big E for the IC Title. While that is set to happen, Van Dam is reportedly set to lose his match to Barrett on RAW due to interference from Cesaro, who Van Dam beat to advance in the tournament on last Monday's RAW thanks to interference from Jack Swagger.
Cesaro talks about his role in WWE as push is expected
The interference by Cesaro will in turn setup a three-way match pitting Cesaro vs. Van Dam vs. Swagger at Extreme Rules in New Jersey.
Another match that on the planned slate for Extreme Rules involves the Tag Team Champion Usos defending their titles against Ryback and Curtis Axel. This match could be likely for the pre-show but it remains to be seen if it will make the regular show.
Three main event matches highlight the card as Daniel Bryan will battle Kane in an Extreme Rules Match, John Cena will take on Bray Wyatt in a Steel Cage Match and Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista) will take on The Shield (Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins) in a six-man tag.
Other matches on the card include Paige defending her WWE Divas Championship against Tamina Snuka while Rusev will take on R-Truth and Xavier Woods in a two-on-one handicap match.
