Indiana entered Tuesday night's matchup with conference foe Minnesota after just settling into the No.1 overall ranking in a season of upsets. But senior forward Trevor Mbakwe and the Gophers would prove to be too much for the top-ranked Hoosiers to overcome.
Minnesota defeated Indiana 77-73 in Minneapolis thanks in large part to a stellar performance from Mbakwe. Mbakwe led all scorers with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Mbakwe, a sixth-year senior, posted his conference-leading seventh double-double in the Gophers' win over Indiana. Indiana allowed 40 points in the paint and gave up a rebound differential of -14 on Tuesday.
The Hoosiers loss on Tuesday marks the seventh time the Associated Press No.1 overall team has lost this season. Indiana is the tenth team to lose three times in the same regular season as the No.1 team in the country. None of the previous nine teams went on to win the NCAA National Championship.
