Dante Cunningham arrest [UPDATE]: Wolves forward makes 'terroristic' threats, locked up second time in three days [VIDEO]

A stream of threatening text messages to his estranged girlfriend is what landed Minnesota Timberwolves veteran forward Dante Cunningham behind bars for the second time in just over 72 hours.

According to the StarTribune.com, Cunningham was taken into custody for a second time early Sunday morning after the unidentified woman called police back to the home they once shared to report Cunningham had violated a court of protection order that stipulated he not make contact with her.

Less than 48 hours earlier, the veteran forward was arrested on felony domestic assault charges after the alleged victim told police he choked and slammed her against a wall in their Medina home early Friday during an argument. Cunningham is now being held without bail at the Hennepin County jail ahead of a Monday afternoon court appearance.

"She said was she was receiving threatening messages from Cunningham," Police Chief Ed Belland told the website of the second arrest, adding officers moved to take Cunningham back into custody after officers "reviewed the messages and found they were direct and rose to a terroristic level."

Cunningham, 26, turned himself in shortly before noon Sunday and investigators report a cellphone and computers have been seized from him by police as part of the investigation. Belland added said he's not sure when charges in the second incident might be formally lodged, noting, "there is a lot of forensics to do with the phones and the computer.

In response to the second arrest, the Timberwolves said in a statement released on Sunday: "The situation with Dante Cunningham is very fluid and we continue to monitor all available information. We reiterate that the Minnesota Timberwolves do not condone the behavior described in the accusations. We continue to wait for the legal process to run its course and will have further comment when appropriate."
