Louisville Cardinals Basketball Roster: Guard Kevin Ware to leave school [VIDEO]

The former national champions Louisville Cardinals will be without guard Kevin Ware next year.

ESPN.com is reporting that Ware, who gained national attention when he suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in college basketball history last year, will be leaving Louisville to finish his college basketball career in another school.

It can be remembered that Ware's injury he suffered while playing the Duke Blue Devils in last year's Elite Eight match-up became the rallying cry of the Cardinals as they marched to the 2013 title. A reserve guard, Ware broke his leg after landing awkwardly while trying to block a shot.

According to ESPN, Ware wants to go to a school closer to his home in Georgia which makes Georgia State and Auburn the most likely landing spots. He also once committed to playing at Tennessee for coach Bruce Pearl.

"We wish Kevin Godspeed," said Louisville coach Rick Pitino was quoted as saying. Earlier, Pitino lamented their loss to the Kentucky Wildcats which ended a glorious three-year run marked by a national championship and two Final Four appearances.

Ware did recover from the injury and made a triumphant return on November 6 during an exhibition match against the University of Pikeville. He then contributed five points in limited minutes against Cornell on Nov. 15 which marked his regular-season return.

However, Ware's return was cut nine games into the season when he suffered an injury in the same right leg which he broke against Duke. He was forced to sit out the rest of the season to seek medical help.
