Holly Holm made her bones in the fight game as a world-class boxer, but she's now transitioned to mixed martial arts. Still undefeated in MMA, Holm has set her sights on the UFC and has piped up about facing reigning bantamweight titleholder Ronda Rousey.
Could Rousey monkey crawl her way to a win over Mayweather?
Holm's promoter Lenny Fresquez touted her impending arrival by saying, "This is a superfight. This is the biggest women's fight in the history of any type of women's [combat] sports. It's a lot of money involved in this payday. I just want to make sure Holly gets her share."
Rousey has fought twice in a recent span and isn't expected to step back in the octagon any time soon, which should give UFC president Dana White plenty of time to figure out his next move with Rousey. In addition to Holm coming on board, he has also said he's open to a matchup between Rousey and the "Cyborg," Cristiane Justino of Strikeforce.
"Cyborg" looking to join UFC, take down Rousey?
Either woman would make for a ratings bonanza for UFC, and this Holm deal seems to be just a bit more concrete than the Cyborg rumors. "Offers went back and forth," Fresquez said. "We already had guidelines of what we were going to agree on and what we weren't going to agree on. We're still a little ways (apart) and there's still a couple of items. We're very excited about getting Holly into the UFC. It's just my job to put Holly in the right hands."
In various mixed martial arts promotions Holm is 6-0, with five of her victories coming by way of knockout. Justino is a bit more accomplished at this stage, with a 12-1 record that includes 10 knockout victories. She is also unbeaten in her last 13 fights.
