Two clubs chasing UEFA Champions League glory will do battle today in a cup match between Bayern Munich and Arsenal. The Round of 16 clash scheduled for 3:45 p.m. ET will be held at the Allianz Arena in Munich and can be live streamed here.
This is déja vu for the Gunners. In 2013, Arsenal suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Emirates. The club would need a three-goal victory in the second leg to advance to the Champions League quarterfinals. Arsene Wenger’s men were up for the task, defeating Bayern Munich on their own soil, but ultimately crashed out of the tournament on the away goals tiebreaker.
Fast forward to today.
Arsenal face the exact same situation, but with one caveat. A 2-0 loss to Bayern at the Emirates will force the Gunners to once again defeat the Bavarian side on their own soil. Except this time, a repeat 2-0 victory will work in their favor. The 2-2 aggregate score would force extra time at the very least. All bets are off in those intense moments. So, no, the situation isn’t ideal for Arsenal. It isn’t unfeasible, either.

Player to Watch: He’s been under an immense amount of scrutiny of late, but Mesut Özil responded on the weekend. An opening goal in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Everton helped propel the club to the semifinals of the FA Cup. A repeat performance on his native land will undoubtedly silence his critics.
Bayern Munich’s Projected Lineup 4-1-4-1: Neuer; Alaba, Dante, Boateng, Rafinha; Lahm; Ribéry, Alcántara, Kroos, Robben; Mandzukic
Arsenal’s Projected Lineup 4-2-3-1: Fabianksi; Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Sagna; Flamini, Arteta; Cazorla, Özil, Chamberlain; Giroud
